Best Practices in Open Source in Higher Education Study: The State of Open Source Software
Released March 1, 2006: Read the only research that details the market adoption of open source software in higher education. The report is based on survey responses from over 200 qualified individuals. It details the adoption of both infrastructure (e.g. Linux, Apache, MySQL) and application (e.g. OpenOffice, Moodle, Sakai, uPortal) open source products.
The report also details what type of institutions are considering open source, what factors are important in open source consideration, and why approxinately one third of institutions are not seriously considering it. The report also details the demand for open source services in higher education.
